Mets Slugger Pete Alonso Set To Sign Five-Year Deal With Baltimore Orioles

NEW YORK CITY — The last two days have not been kind to Mets fans, and it just got worse — with first baseman Pete Alonso expected to sign a five-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles.
Alonso leaves the team as the franchise's all-time leader in home runs with 264 career home runs, and his departure comes one day after All-Star closer Edwin Diaz decided to join the defending world champions Los Angles Dodgers.
The new deal with the Orioles will net Alonso $155 million and ends his seven-year stint in Queens.

According to ESPN and multiple media reports, the Mets were resistant to give Alonso more than a three-year contract this offseason.
Last offseason, Alonso signed a two-year, $54 million deal with the Mets, which he opted out of after hitting 38 home runs with 126 RBI in 2025.

The Mets have been linked with Yankees outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger. Internal options include Mark Vientos, who could make the move to first base.
Alonso was drafted by the Mets in 2016 and made his debut three years later, and went on to set a rookie record with 53 home runs.
