More Than 300 Flights Canceled At NYC-Area Airports Due To Ongoing Shutdown

More than 2,000 flights​ were canceled on Sunday nationwide.

NEW YORK CITY — More than 300 flights have been canceled on Monday at three airports in the New York City metro area amid the ongoing government shutdown.

As of 2 p.m. on Monday, LaGuardia Airport has 131 total flight cancellations, according to FlightAware.

John. F. Kennedy International Airport had 88 cancellations and Newark Liberty International Airport had 95.

The three airports were also experiencing major delays on Monday. LaGuardia was dealing with 306 delays, JFK had 240 and Newark had 218.

According to the FAA, Monday was projected to be one of the worst day for air travel during the ongoing 41-day government shutdown due to air traffic control shortages.

The Department of Transportation has limited flights across the country due to the shortages.

In addition, airlines had been directed to slash about 4 percent of their flights nationwide at the end of last week. That figure could increase by the end of this week.

Air traffic controllers have missed two paychecks due to the shutdown.
