New Mexico Added To NY Coronavirus Quarantine List

NEW YORK CITY — The Land of Enchantment is no man's land for travel as far as New York is concerned.

New Mexico is now on New York's travel advisory list of states which have high coronavirus levels, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday. Travelers from the state must quarantine for 14 days upon arriving in the Empire State.

Cuomo, in a release, tied the restrictions to localized efforts to contain virus clusters in Brooklyn, Queens and other parts of the state.

"We're seeing clusters now in several areas in the state and we have to stop the spread before we go backwards on the progress we've made," he said.

There are 35 states and territories from which travelers to New York face restrictions. Those are:

• Delaware
• Florida
• Georgia
• Guam
• Idaho
• Iowa
• Illinois
• Indiana
• Kansas
• Kentucky
• Louisiana
• Minnesota
• Missouri
• Mississippi
• Montana
• North Carolina
• North Dakota
• Nebraska
• New Mexico
• Nevada
• Oklahoma
• Puerto Rico
• Rhode Island
• South Carolina
• South Dakota
• Tennessee
• Texas
• Utah
• Wisconsin
• West Virginia
• Wyoming

The states on the list have a positive coronavirus test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average or an area with a 10 percent or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average.

New York's positivity rate stood at 1.45 percent as of Tuesday. Without counting hotspots such as those in Brooklyn and Queens, it is 1.20 percent, according to officials.
