NEW YORK CITY — A hacker broke into the New York Post's website Thursday morning to post extremist hate speech on its website and Twitter account, the tabloid announced.

"The New York Post has been hacked," the newspaper tweeted about 9:50 a.m. "We are currently investigating the cause."

Fake editorials posted by the hacker — and quickly taken down by the Post — had gubernatorial Lee Zeldin candidate using racist slurs to describe Mayor Eric Adams and threatening Gov. Kathy Hochul with sexual assault.

Said City Hall spokesperson Fabien Levy, “These vile, racist, and sexist comments have no place in public discourse, even by those unlawfully hacking a Twitter account.”

There was also a fake call to assassinate U.S. Rep Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

A source told CNN journalist Oliver Darcy that a "rogue employee" might be to blame.

The violent nature of the posted content spurred U.S. Rep Adriano Espaillat to call on the Post and Twitter to investigate.

"Violence against anyone is wrong," Espaillat tweeted. "I urge the NY Post & @Twitter to take immediate action to address today’s threats of violence & prevent future attacks."

Other New Yorkers were quick to mock the tabloid, known for content aligning with the conservative views of owner, and Fox News media mogul, Rupert Murdoch.

"Have you checked the ed board?" Tweeted City Council Member Justin Brannan, a Brooklyn Democrat.

"You haven't been hacked," Twitter user Jess replied. "Murdoch bought the newspaper in 1976. That's not a hack."
