The officer received an estimated 75 to 100 stitches to his face following the attack, prosecutors said.

NEW YORK CITY — A 39-year-old man has been indicted after he struck an elderly woman and a police office in the face with a plate last month in Manhattan, prosecutors announced.

Marvin White, of Harlem, who faces first-degree assault and other charges, is accused of striking a 77-year-old woman in the face with a plate on Sept. 24.

The incident happened near an urgent care center at 310 3rd Ave in Kips Bay.

The victim followed White until she spotted two police officers and asked for help.

The officers — Saul Rivera and Maria Corbisiero — exited their vehicle and followed White, who was carrying a plate in one hand.

When officers tried to apprehend White, the suspect turned and struck Rivera in the face with the plate, shattering it on his face, prosecutors said.

Rivera was able to help Corbisiero make the arrest. Corbisiero suffered an injured forearm while making the arrest.

The attack on Rivera resulted in several deep lacerations and substantial bleeding. He was taken to the hospital and received an estimated 75 to 100 stitches to his face, prosecutors said.

"Members of the NYPD risk their safety every day to protect New Yorkers, and I thank them for their partnership in keeping Manhattan safe,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in an statement. “I hope the three victims continue to heal from their injuries.”

White remains held on $100,000 cash bail/$150,000 bond and is due back in court on Jan. 7, 2025.
