NYC Bars With Fireplaces To Keep You Warm

Stay out of the cold with a drink at one of these toasty spots.

NEW YORK, NY — The mid-winter cold will keep bearing down on New York City this weekend, with sub-zero wind chills and a good chance of snow on Saturday. But you don't have to let it spoil your plans for a night out.

Dozens of bars around the city very smartly have fireplaces for times just like this. And they're not just good for warmth — several are known for award-winning cocktails or remarkably good drink deals.

Here's a selection of some of the city's best bars that will have fires roaring this weekend. Just don't get lost in the cold on your way home.

MANHATTAN

Art Bar
52 Eighth Ave., West Village
This West Side hideaway has a cozy back room complete with lots of funky paintings, including a send-up of "The Last Supper" in which The Doors' Jim Morrison stands in for Jesus. There's also a food menu with vegetarian chili to keep you warm.

The Flatiron Room
37 W. 26th St., Flatiron
A collection of 1,000 whiskeys and other spirits helps the fire do the warming-up here. The bar also has live jazz shows several nights a week.

Draught 55
245 E. 55th St., Midtown East
Here you'll find a rotating cast of 42 beers on tap served in a glass-topped atrium. There's also a menu of high-end pub food made with local ingredients.

Employees Only
510 Hudson St., West Village
Known for its cocktails, Employees Only was named one of the World's 50 Best Bars this year. So you know it'll be good.

BROOKLYN

Union Pool
484 Union Ave., Williamsburg
This North Brooklyn mainstay has a big fire pit on its heated back porch to give you an escape from the crowded bar inside. There's also a taco truck back there if you get hungry.

Clover Club
210 Smith St., Cobble Hill
This wood-paneled room calls itself "the premiere cocktail bar in Brooklyn." Well-dressed bartenders serve renowned drinks and small plates. There's also an occasional live jazz show.

Black Mountain Wine House
415 Union St., Gowanus
The cabin-like space offers a rotating list of dozens of wines, plus cheese, charcuterie and other appetizers.

QUEENS

Queen's Room
36-02 Ditmars Blvd., Astoria
Furnished with black leather booths and marble tables in addition to a fireplace, Queen's Room serves a full lunch and dinner menu, with coffee during the day and cocktails at night.

Alewife
5-14 51st Ave., Long Island City
This two-story pub offers more than two dozen beers on tap, plus cocktails and a full dinner menu. They're also hosting a New Year's Eve party complete with a champagne toast.

LIC Bar
45-58 Vernon Ave., Long Island City
The 100-year-old space has a garden, beer on tap and a great view of Manhattan.
