NEW YORK CITY — A Manhattan culinary maestro just gobbled up a tasty prize: the James Beard Award for "best chef" in New York.

Not only that, but Junghyun Park — who leads the kitchen in Atomix, a buzzy Korean restaurant — is the only New York City chef or restaurant who got recognition Monday during the prestigious culinary awards.

The 2023 James Beard Awards ceremony ended with six Big Apple finalists falling just short of the foundation's highest honor, widely considered to be the "Oscars of culinary arts."

But, just as the Oscars, it's an honor just to be nominated.

“As we celebrate, it's important to acknowledge the significant work that these accomplished restaurants and chefs have done to push American food culture forward—using their immense creativity, passion, and talent to create extraordinary experiences on behalf of others," said Clare Reichenbach, CEO of the James Beard Foundation, in a statement.

Atomix along 30th Street near Park Avenue is the follow-up restaurant to Atoboy. The restaurant also has two Michelin stars, in addition to this James Beard honor.
