NEW YORK, NY — New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer's office launched an online resource center Wednesday designed to help connect New Yorkers with government services and accurate information as the city grapples with the coronavirus outbreak.

Stringer's guide provides tailored information for different groups of New Yorkers such as homeowners, freelancers, senior citizens, tenants and small business owners.

"This hub on our website contains critical information about the many government programs available to assist New Yorkers in need, recent policy changes regarding health and safety, options for financial support for residents and businesses alike, and organizations to reach out to for additional assistance," Stringer wrote in a blog post announcing the resource guide.

Examples of resources New Yorkers can take advantage of include: Financial assistance for people who have lost their jobs and freelancers who have lost contracts because of coronavirus' effect on the economy, food assistance, mortgage relief for homeowners and grants for small businesses.

As of April 7, 74,601 people have tested positive for the virus in New York City and 3,544 people have died, according to city officials. The real number is expected to be significantly higher because of the difficulty to get tested and because numbers don't include people who die at home.
