NYC-Dublin Portal Set To Close Next Month, New Location Planned
In May, the installation was temporarily closed due to inappropriate behavior and technical issues, organizers said at the time.
NEW YORK CITY — The virtual portal connecting New York City and Dublin leave its Flatiron district location next month.
The art installation, located in the Flatiron district along Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street, will be on display until Sept. 2, officials confirmed.
In Dublin, the portal was installed on O’Connell Street. A live stream connects the two cities.

"As we continue to innovate and create dynamic experiences in Flatiron & NoMad, the Portal, always planned as a temporary installation, will be removed on September 2nd to embark on a new phase in its journey with an exciting destination to be announced soon," Flatiron NoMad Partnership President James Mettham said in a statement.
"We extend our deepest gratitude to the Simons Foundation, NYC Department of Transportation Art Program (NYC DOT Art), Dublin City Council, and the Portals team for their partnership and support in launching this project. Their collaboration has been instrumental in making the Portal a landmark experience in Flatiron & NoMad, and we look forward to what’s next."

Portal creator Benediktas Gylys told NBC New York that Portal will be moved to a new permanent location in the city.
In May, the installation was temporarily closed due to inappropriate behavior and technical issues, organizers said at the time.
The portal reopened with new limited hours and ended the 24/7 livestream.
In addition, security measures were put in place, with the installation being fenced off and security guards monitoring the crowds.
Those who want to visit the installation before it closes, the livestream is from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
