NYC Heat Advisory: Hazardously Hot Temperatures Predicted Tuesday

NEW YORK CITY — It's about to get hazardously hot in New York City. Forecasters have issued a heat advisory in the city from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, during which time it's going to be about 95 degrees outside, according to the National Weather Service.

City officials warned New Yorkers to avoid strenuous activity outside, to keep cool and hydrated, and check in on neighbors who might be more vulnerable to the heat.

Weather.gov forecasts show the intense heat will fade after sunset Tuesday and temperatures are predicted to remain in the mid-80s for the rest of the week.

The last heat wave to hit New York City on the weekend of July 19 lasted days and reached a heat index of 105 degrees, prompting Mayor Bill de Blasio to declare it a city emergency.

Tens of thousands of New Yorkers lost power which took Con Edison several days to restore.
