NYC Public Hospitals To Hire 500 Non-Clinical Workers: Mayor
The NYC Health + Hospitals system is hiring 500 people, starting immediately, to help with non-clinical tasks like transporting patients.

NEW YORK CITY — The NYC Health + Hospitals system is hiring 500 temporary workers to start work immediately on non-clinical tasks like transporting patients, cleaning and maintenance during the pandemic, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Sunday.
The temporary jobs will begin as 90-day assignments and are intended for New Yorkers who lost their jobs amid the outbreak of the new coronavirus, de Blasio said.
"For so many families that do not have enough money right now, they're going to be a real lifeline," de Blasio said during a Sunday news conference.

The number of available hospital positions will soon reach into the thousands, according to the mayor's office.
"I want to say to all New Yorkers who are looking for work, join a team of heroes, help out in our hospitals, fighting back the coronavirus and saving lives," de Blasio said.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the New York State Department of Labor has seen a spike in unemployment insurance claims and even launched a new unemployment application to deal with the increase in demand.
