NYC’s Worst Landlords In 2024: See Who Made The List
Last year, HPD issued 24 percent more violations than they did in 2023.
NEW YORK CITY — Renters have to deal with some bad landlords in New York City, but these are the worst in the five boroughs, according to a list released by Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.
New York City's worst landlords of 2024 features a list that have collectively racked up thousands of violations. Last year, HPD issued 24 percent more violations than in 2023.
The worst landlord in 2024 goes to Barry Singer, according to Williams. The full list features 100 city landlords.

He currently has an average of 1,804 open violations over the past year, according to the Housing Preservation & Development department.
Singer runs seven buildings and has 199 units in Brooklyn and the Bronx. He has issued seven evictions over the past two years and has 10 Department of Buildings violations.
