NYC School Dean Accused Of Strangling Student: Report

NEW YORK CITY — A New York City middle school dean has been arrested after allegedly strangling a student during an argument on Thursday, according to a report.
Elvin Ventura, 53, who is the dean of students at Charles O. Dewey Middle School in Brooklyn, faces a number of charges including second degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a CBS New York report.
The incident happened after the dean told a student to change into his uniform and the boy refused. An argument between the two quickly escalated.

According to the report and a criminal complaint, the middle school dean "pushed the boy with his hands, wrapped his arms around his neck and applied pressure."
Another teacher had to come in and separate the dean and student.

A city Department of Education spokesperson called the behavior unacceptable in a statement to the outlet.
"This employee has been reassigned away from students pending the outcome of the arrest, and if convicted, we will pursue termination," the statement read.
Ventura has been released without bail.
