NYC Plans To Shut Down Last Remaining Hotel Migrant Shelter

The city has closed a total of 64 migrant shelters in the past year.

NEW YORK CITY — New York City will shut down the last hotel that served as housing for migrants and asylum seekers.

The Row NYC, located on Eighth Avenue and 45th Street in Midtown, is expected to close “in the coming months,” according to Mayor Eric Adams.

The Row Hotel was the first hotel to convert to an emergency migrant shelter when it opened to migrants in 2022.

"Three years ago, thousands of migrants and asylum seekers began streaming into our city every week and the Adams administration stepped up,” Adams said in a statement. “We opened hundreds of emergency migrant shelters to ensure no family slept on the street. Since then, we have successfully helped more than 200,000 migrants leave our shelter system and take the next step toward self-sufficiency.”

The city has closed a total of 64 migrant shelters in the past year. Officials have said the closures are due to the declining population of migrants and asylum seekers in New York City.

In June, the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown was also shut down.

It is not known at this time if the Row Hotel will be converted back to a hotel or will be closed indefinitely, according to reports.
