NYC Subway Delays: 16 Lines Hit By Planned Work, Unplanned Woes

Straphangers faced delays or planned work on more than a dozen lines to start the week.

NEW YORK, NY — The trains aren't helping with the Monday blues. Planned work and various unplanned problems caused delays and service changes on 16 subway lines Monday morning, according to the MTA.

An L train with mechanical problems caused delays on that line in both directions just before 9:30 a.m., the MTA said. A train with door issues briefly caused earlier delays on that line, according to New York City Transit Twitter posts.

Southbound 2 faced delays because of signal problems at the 225th Street stop, and 1 trains were delayed by a customer needing medical assistance at Dyckman Street. The 5 and 6 trains were previously hampered by signal problems a train with door problems, respectively.

More signal problems at Rockaway Park-Beach 116th Street delayed A trains and the Rockaway Park shuttle in both directions, according to the MTA website.

Commuters on the N, R and W lines also faced delays earlier because of signal problems at Lexington Avenue-59th Street and a customer needing medical assistance at 5th Avenue. Service on those lines was restored, but southbound Q trains still ran express from Prospect Park to Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn because of planned track replacement work.

Other pre-planned projects caused changes on the 7, A, J, M, D and B lines on Monday. G train riders, at least, benefitted from extra service between Bedford-Nostrand and Court Square from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., according to the MTA website.

Straphangers who took a glance at the MTA's website just before 9 a.m. could see this bleak chart.
