NEW YORK CITY – A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for New York City as a storm bringing as much as two inches of snow takes aim.

Temperatures will drop below freezing early Monday, a sharp shock from balmy warmth that New Yorkers have enjoyed all weekend.

The National Weather Service predicts there's a chance of snowfall between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

"An all snow event is expected, with light amounts between 0.5 and 2 inches," the forecast says.

"It may be hard to believe that any snow is on the way, given the warmth and lack of wintry weather thus far this season," AccuWeather Meteorologist Ryan Adamson said.

Said First Deputy Commissioner Christina Farrell, “We encourage all New Yorkers to use mass transit, allow for extra travel time, and exercise caution.”

This recommendation came as MTA staffing shortages linked to COVID-19 suspended three subway lines Monday.
