NYC Weather: Severe Storm, Hail, Heavy Rain Possible As Heat Breaks

Good news: the heat will break. Bad news: it'll be broken by days of rain.

NEW YORK CITY — New York City's recent 90-degree heat is about to break, but it's probably time to break out an umbrella.

The city is under a hazardous weather outlook Thursday and Friday that warns of potential severe thunderstorms and flash flooding.

"Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain," a National Weather Service's forecast states.

So far, the rainfall Friday appears likely to be far below the upstate storms that washed out commuter tracks, flooded towns and left a woman dead.

Up to a half-inch of rain could fall Friday night after a day of precipitation, the forecast states.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms will carry through the weekend, according to the forecast.
