NYC Weather Forecast: Bitter Cold To Last Another Week

Sub-zero wind chills at night could continue until Wednesday.

NEW YORK, NY — This cold snap isn't going away any time soon. New York City will likely see sub-zero wind chills in the late-night and early-morning hours for the next week, with temperatures averaging 15 to 20 degrees below normal until Wednesday, the National Weather Service said Thursday.

High temperatures won't pierce 29 degrees all week, according to the weather service's latest forecast. Wind gusts could make it feel as cold as -15 degrees between midnight and noon for the next seven days.

There's also a 50 percent chance of snow on Saturday — up to 2 inches are expected to hit some parts of the city.

Officials say it's important to bundle up to mitigate the dangers of the cold, if you have to go outside at all. Weather this cold can increase the risk of hypothermia and frostbite, according to the city's Office of Emergency Management.

New Yorkers should check on neighbors and others who might be more vulnerable to the cold, such as seniors and those with chronic health conditions, officials said.
