And there's not much of a cool down on the way. The mercury won't dip below 90 for days, with the Juy 4 holiday expected to top 93 degrees.
The extreme heat could be dangerous to certain people without air conditioning, such as those who are 65 or older, have chronic medical conditions or misuse drugs or alcohol, the city's Office of Emergency Management says.

"Air conditioning is crucial," said Dr. Mary T. Bassett, the city health commissioner, in a statement. "We urge New Yorkers without air conditioning in their home to go to an air-conditioned place, such as a New York City cooling center."
Cooling centers will be open around the city from Friday through Monday for anyone who needs a break from the heat. Olympic and intermediate-sized pools will be open for swimming until 8 p.m. from Friday through Sunday. You can also check out Patch's guide to where to cool down for free in NYC.
