NYC Weather Forecast: Storms To Strike Amid Sweltering Heat
New Yorkers should beware of intense heat and potential flash floods on Tuesday.

NEW YORK, NY — Intense thunderstorms could bring heavy rain and flash floods to New York City on a sweltering Tuesday, the National Weather Service warns. The city will be under both a heat advisory and a flash flood watch from noon to 6 p.m.
Thunderstorms could strike starting as early as Tuesday morning, but they're mainly expected to hit after 3 p.m., the weather service says.
The storms could produce "gusty winds and heavy rain," with more than an inch of rain expected to fall from 2 to 8 p.m., according to the weather service's forecast.

"Any thunderstorms will have the potential to bring torrential downpours with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour," the weather service said in a hazardous weather outlook.

A chance of rain will loom throughout Tuesday evening and into early Wednesday morning, the forecast shows. The flash flood watch will be in effect until 10 p.m.
The storms will come on a steamy day with an expected high temperature near 88 degrees and heat index values as high as 96, the weather service says. The heat advisory is in effect until 6 p.m., when the temperature will be about 80 degrees, the forecast shows.
Sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s are expected for the rest of the week.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. Heat index values as high as 96. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tuesday Night
Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 69. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Wednesday
Sunny, with a high near 87. North wind 5 to 9 mph.
Wednesday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 67. North wind 6 to 8 mph.
Thursday
Sunny, with a high near 84. Northeast wind 3 to 7 mph.
Thursday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 68.
Friday
Sunny, with a high near 85.
Friday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 69.
