NYC Weather Forecast: Streak Of Sweltering Temps Finally Ends

NEW YORK, NY — New York City will finally get some normal midsummer weather after a recent streak of sweltering days, the latest National Weather Service forecast shows. Seasonable high temperatures in the low- to mid-80s are expected over the weekend following Friday's likely thunderstorms.

The mercury will reach a high near 85 on Friday as rain and thunder threaten to strike through the afternoon, the forecast shows. About half an inch of rain could fall by 2 p.m. before the storm tapers off later in the afternoon. The city will be under a flash flood watch until 4 p.m.

The storms will clear the way for sunny skies over the weekend. Temperatures will hit highs near 81 on Saturday and 84 on Sunday, the forecast shows, roughly normal for this time of year.

Things could get steamy again early next week — the mercury could get up into the 90s again on Tuesday, the weather service says.

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4pm. High near 85. West wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
