NYC Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms To Drench City

NEW YORK, NY – After sweltering in near-record heat Monday, New York City is about to be drenched by storms pushing into the region tonight.

The National Weather Center reported that temperatures in the city reached 90 degrees shortly after 2 p.m., shy of the record high for the date of 95 reached in 1929 but still hot enough to leave New Yorkers sweaty and miserable.

Forecasters are saying the thunderstorms will move into the area late Monday night with up to a quarter of an inch predicted to fall before they end around 3 a.m.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 3am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
