NYC Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms To Break Brutal Heat Wave

Heavy rain will be followed by a beautiful weekend.

NEW YORK, NY – After days of brutal heat, a drenching rain is about to bring some relief to New York City.

Though a heat advisory stays in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday with temperatures reaching 88 degrees, showers will start this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The real storm is set to arrive around 3 a.m. Friday and stretch through the day with up to three quarters of an inch set to fall.

The good news: Once it clears, the city looks ready for a beautiful weekend of clear skies and temperatures in the high 70s or low 80s.

Thursday
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Heat index values as high as 96. South wind 6 to 13 mph.

Thursday Night
A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind around 11 mph.

Friday
Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 85. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Mostly clear, with a low around 62. North wind 13 to 16 mph.

Saturday
Sunny, with a high near 79. North wind 7 to 13 mph.

Clear, with a low around 64.
