NYC Weather: Heavy Snow Expected To Hit This Weekend

A hazardous weather outlook was issued Tuesday as the city began to prepare for the storm.

NEW YORK CITY – A hazardous weather outlook has been issued as New York City prepares for what could be the biggest snowstorm so far this winter.

The latest approaching weather could even become a bomb cyclone – basically a winter hurricane, forecasters said. Bombogenesis occurs when the storm's barometric pressure plunges by at least 24 millibars in 24 hours.

"There is the potential for a low pressure storm system to bring heavy snowfall and high winds to portions of the area Friday night into Saturday night," the National Weather Service said as it issued the outlook.

The forecasters said it was still uncertain exactly how much snow the city can expect.

The approaching storm will be preceded by bitterly cold temperatures. NYC is not expected to get above freezing before Friday, and could plunge as low as 13 degrees Wednesday night.
