NYC Weather: More Thunderstorms, Extreme Heat Ahead

NEW YORK — Keep those umbrellas handy, because the storms aren't over yet.

More rain will batter New York for a cloudy Thursday, forecasters say, and thunderstorms are possible after 10 a.m. The city could see as much as a half-inch of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Wednesday night's storms brought almost two inches of rain to New York City, with rainfall exceeding that in parts of Queens, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures will reach 84 degrees Thursday, giving New Yorkers a brief respite before a weekend of extreme heat.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Friday and Saturday, predicting that high temperatures will reach the upper 90s.

The maximum heat index — which accounts for humidity — could reach 107 on Friday and 113 on Saturday, forecasters now predict.
