High temperatures will reach 84 degrees Thursday, giving New Yorkers a brief respite before a weekend of extreme heat.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Friday and Saturday, predicting that high temperatures will reach the upper 90s.

The maximum heat index — which accounts for humidity — could reach 107 on Friday and 113 on Saturday, forecasters now predict.
