Tropical Storm Debby: Latest Forecast For NYC Impacts

The New York City Emergency Management department has issued a travel advisory for Tuesday into Wednesday.

NEW YORK CITY — Thunderstorms, heavy rain along with flash flooding could impact the New York City area for at least the next two days, forecasters said.

Scattered showers could hit the area beginning this afternoon, with heavy rain expected in the evening and into the overnight hours of Wednesday, according to forecasts.

The New York City Emergency Management department has issued a travel advisory for Tuesday into Wednesday.

In addition, The National Weather Service has issued a citywide flood watch in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday, until 12 p.m. Wednesday.

The NWS has predicted local rain amounts of 3 to 5" and has New York City under a moderate risk for excessive rainfall Tuesday.

NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center has put New York City in a Level 3 out of 4 risk of flash flooding on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the worst of the weather will be seen in the morning, with showers and thunderstorms likely. Temperatures with reach a high of 71 degrees.

Thursday into Saturday will also see rain and thunderstorms, as remnants of Tropical Storm Debby makes its way up the East Coast.

The NYC area is under a moderate risk for flooding those days as the storm passes by.

Heavy rainfall will likely result in flash flooding during the three-day period.

Potentially, 5–8 inches of rain could fall in the surrounding areas of NYC, according to the latest forecast.

Here is the latest forecast for the rest of the week:

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely between noon and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86.

Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, with a high near 71. Chance of rain is 70%.

Thursday: Chance of rain at 40 percent, with showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77.

Friday: Possible showers and thunderstorms. High near 79. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Saturday: Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 81.
