NEW YORK, NY – Finally, a week before Labor Day, summer has arrived. For what feels like the first time this year, forecasters are predicting a beautiful weekend.
The sunshine comes after weeks of almost constant downpours, thunderstorms, hail and even tornadoes. The summer has been such a washout that Central Park has already recorded one of its wettest Augusts – 7.7 inches of rain had fallen as of August 20, five inches more than is normally seen for the whole month.
Labor Day, which this year falls on September 3, traditionally marks the end of summer. New York City's beaches officially close the Sunday after the holiday.
