NYC Weather: First Day Of Fall Feels Like 90 Degrees
The city will feel like 90 degrees Monday afternoon before rain arrives and temperatures drop in the evening, forecasters say.
NEW YORK — So much for sweater weather. Fall will get off to a steamy start Monday as temperatures near 90 degrees and possible thunderstorms hit New York City, forecasters say.
The mercury will hit a high near 88 in Central Park by early Monday afternoon, with humidity making the first official day of autumn feel as hot as 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
That will make Monday some 15 degrees hotter than the normal high temperature of 73 degrees for this time of year, weather service records show.

Some relief may come in the evening, when thunderstorms could start soaking the city with about a quarter inch of rain, forecasters say.
The showers will stem from a cold front that will pass through the tri-state region Monday night as the mercury drops to a low around 66 degrees in the city, according to the weather service. Tuesday will be slightly cooler as a result but still warmer than normal with a high near 77, the weather service's forecast shows.

The strangely warm weather will hit the same day that international leaders descend on the city for the United Nations Climate Action Summit focused on combatting the climate change crisis. Thousands of youth marched through Lower Manhattan during Friday's Climate Strike protest ahead of the gathering.
