NYC Weather: Tropical Storm Philippe Flyby Bodes Heavy Rain
Looking for a weekend without a drenching downpour? Mother Nature says: too bad!

NEW YORK CITY — Tropical Storm Philippe is poised to take a wet glancing blow at New York City this weekend, forecasters said.
Up to 2 inches of heavy rain, along with thunderstorms, are likely will hit the city Saturday as the storm blows past on its path to directly strike Maine and Canada, according to the National Weather Service.
The city is under a hazardous weather outlook Friday and Saturday as forecasters warn of drenching downpours that could lead to flash flooding — an experience that's fresh in New Yorkers' mind from last week.

"While we expect the best chance of flooding this time will be north and east of New York City, should extreme rainfall rates above 1 inch per hour occur in urban areas, such as New York City area, flash flooding with rapidly rising water can quickly escalate into a life-threatening situation in a matter of minutes, as urban environments have many impervious surfaces such as sidewalks and streets which promotes greater runoff," said AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter in a report by the service.
Friday carries a 50 percent chance of rain, which will increase overnight into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.
