NYC Weather: Soaking Rain Comes With Weird Warmth This Weekend

The mercury will get into the 60s on a wet Sunday.

NEW YORK — Showers expected to soak New York City will come with a break from the cold on the first weekend in December, the National Weather Service says. The mercury will reach into the 60s on Sunday, when more than half an inch of rain is set to fall, the weather service's forecast shows.

Some light showers could fall Friday afternoon amid an unseasonably cold temperature around 40 degrees, the weather service says. But rain is expected to start in earnest Saturday evening, with more than a quarter-inch to hit by 1 a.m. Sunday, the forecast shows.

The showers will continue into early Sunday afternoon, when the temperature will hit a high of 62 degrees in Central Park, the forecast shows. That's 14 degrees warmer than normal and eight degrees shy of the record high for Dec. 2.
