NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes Dec. 22-23

The 1, 4, 6, A, B, D, E, F, G, J, M and N trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Planning to travel somewhere in the city this weekend? Good luck! From Friday night, Dec. 21, until Monday morning, Dec. 24, the MTA will be carrying out work to "maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to provide customers with safe and reliable service."

That means it's another weekend of major service disruption.

1 train:

  • At all times until winter 2018-19, downtown trains skip 238 St due to station improvements. As an alternative, take the Bx9 to 231 St, or take an uptown train to 242 St and transfer to a downtown 1.

4/6 trains:

At all times until Late Winter 2018-19, 4 and 6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 28 St station is one of the oldest in the subway system, opening in October 1904. For alternate service, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Avenue South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St R/W station on Broadway. A train:

From 9:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Monday, Dec. 14 to Dec. 17, downtown trains run express from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to station enhancements at 110 St, 86 St and 72 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local or C to complete your trip. Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle or 125 St. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.

B train:

From 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, B service will end early due to station enhancements at 167 St and 174-175 Sts. As an alternative, take the B/D and/or Q. As a reminder, B service does not run on weekends.

B/D train:

At all times through December 2018, trains will skip 174-175 Sts in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby Tremont Av B/D or 170 St B/D stations. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to B/D trains at Tremont Av or 170 St with a MetroCard. For either station, customers transferring to another bus can ask the driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which can be used on another local bus ride within two hours. For return trips, ask the station agent at the Tremont Av B/D or 170 St B/D station for a transfer to the bus. B/D train:

At all times until January 2019, B/D trains will skip 167 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby stations at 170 St B/D, 167 St 4, or 161 St-Yankee Stadium. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to the subway at 170 St or 161 St-Yankee Stadium with a MetroCard. Use the Bx35 along E 167 St and transfer to the 4 at 167 St station with a MetroCard. For transfers to another bus, ask the bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which can be used on another local bus ride within two hours. D train:
From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, downtown trains skip 170 St, 161 St-Yankee Stadium, and 155 St, due to station enhancements at 167 St and 174-175 Sts. As an alternative, use an uptown D train to complete your trip. Transfer at 145 St or Tremont Av. As a reminder, the 167 St and 174-175 Sts B/D stations are closed for renovations.

E train:
From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, E trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to CBTC related electrical improvements between Queens Plaza and 75 Av.
F train:
From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, F trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to CBTC related electrical improvements between Queens Plaza and 75 Av.
F train
From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, Jamaica-bound F trains are rerouted via the E line after 47-50 St to Roosevelt Av due to track maintenance. To Lexington Av/63 St, transfer to the Q at 34 St-Herald Sq. To Roosevelt Island and 21 St-Queensbridge, take the F to Roosevelt Av or Steinway St and transfer to a Brooklyn-bound F. From these stations, take a Brooklyn-bound F to 47-50 Sts and transfer to a Jamaica-bound F.

G train:
From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, free shuttle buses replace trains between Bedford Nostrand Avs and Court Sq due to track maintenance and station improvements at Greenpoint Av, G trains will run between Church Av and Bedford Nostrand Avs. Free shuttle buses will make all G line station stops between Bedford Nostrand Avs and Court Sq. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Bedford Nostrand Avs.

J train:
From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, Broad St-bound J trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St, and Hewes St due to track maintenance at Myrtle Av. As an alternative, use a Jamaica-bound J train to complete your trip. Transfer at Essex St, Marcy Av or Myrtle Av. As a reminder, M trains will not run this weekend.

M train:
From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec 24, free shuttle buses and J trains replace M trains due to track panel replacement along the M line. Free shuttle buses will run between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av all weekend. For service between Myrtle Av and Delancey-Essex Sts, take the J. As a reminder, Broad St-bound J trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St, and Hewes St on Saturday and Sunday.

N train:
At all times until February 2019, trains will skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. When this project is completed, customers will benefit from critical structural and safety repairs and improvements to concrete and steel features such as columns, beams, platforms, walls and stairs. There will also be other improvements and upgrades such as improved waterproofing, a reconfigured mezzanine area including new glass barriers, new security cameras, LED lighting for increased light and energy efficiency, and enhanced signage for easier navigation including digital, real-time service change and train and bus arrival information. For alternate service, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30 Av, 36 Av, or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus. For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here.

N train:
At all times until Spring 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line. When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for customers, including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork. For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av. For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D instead. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St.

N train:
At all times until July 2019, trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
