NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes July 13-14

Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, E, F, L, M, N, R and W​ ​trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, July 12, through early Monday morning, July 15— in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service."

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 16 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

  • From 11:15 p.m. Friday, July 12, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, trains will not run between 96 St and 145 St due to switch rehabilitation near 125 St. 1 trains will run between South Ferry and 96 St, and between 145 St and Van Cortlandt Park-242 St. Buses will run between 96 St and 145 St. Transfer at 96 St and/or 145 St. Or, use the A local or C stations nearby.
  • At all times until early 2020, trains skip 168 St in both directions due to elevator replacement work. For alternate service take the AC at/to this station. Transfer between 1 and A trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle. A free out-of-system transfer with a MetroCard is available between the 207 St or 215 St 1 and 207 St A. Take the M5 to/from 157 St 1. Late nights, the M5 will run between 168 St and 157 St. This work is part of a major elevator replacement project at five separate "deep" stations in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.   • At all times through July 2019, the uptown platform at Franklin Stwill be EXIT ONLY due to the installation of flood protection equipment. For uptown service from this station, take a downtown train to Chambers St and transfer to an uptown 1/2 or 3. Or, use the nearby Canal St 1 station.

2 train:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 13 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, uptown trains will skip 79 St and 86 St due to switch maintenance near 96 St. As an alternative, use an uptown 1 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 72 St.
  • From 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Franklin Av and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College due to station rehabilitation at President St, Sterling St and Winthrop St. 2 trains will run between Wakefield-241 St and Franklin Av, and via the 4 line to/from Crown Hts-Utica Av. Free shuttle buses will make all 2 line station stops between Franklin Av and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College. Transfer between buses and 2/3/4 trains at Franklin Av or Nostrand Av.

2/3 trains:

  • At all times through July 2019, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum due to accessibility improvements. During this closure, use the nearby Franklin Av 2/3/4/5 or Grand Army Plaza 2/3 stations. Or, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 or Crown Hts-Utica Av/New Lots Av-bound 3 (4 local train) to complete your trip. Transfer at Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Av.

2/5 trains:

  • At all times through August 2019, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Winthrop St due to station rehabilitation work. For service to Winthrop St, use the nearby Sterling St or Church Avenue stations. Or, take a 2/5 train to Sterling St and transfer to a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 or 5. For service from Winthrop St, take the B44 local or B44 SBS bus, or 2/5 to Church Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 2 or 5 train.
  • At all times through July 2019, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound trains will skip President St due to station rehabilitation work. During this closure, for service to President St, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 2 or 5 train. For service from President St, use the B44 local or B44 SBS bus. Or, take a Manhattan-bound 2/5 to Franklin Av and transfer to a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College-bound 2 or 5 train.

4 train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Sunday, July 14, downtown trains will run express from 125 St to 14 St-Union Sq due to track maintenance including tie block renewal near Grand Central-42 St. As an alternative, use an uptown 4 local or 6 to complete your trip. Transfer at 14 St-Union Sq, Grand Central-42 St, 59 St, 86 St, or 125 St.

5 train:

  • Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, service will end early between E 180 St and Bowling Green due to track maintenance near Grand Central. Take the 2 and/or 4. As a reminder, 5 service does not run in Manhattan overnight.
  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St due to station renewal work at Gun Hill Rd. 5 trains will run days/evenings, every 20 minutes between Bowling Green and E 180 St. Free shuttle buses will make all station stops between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St all weekend. Transfer between shuttle buses and 2/5 trains at E 180 St. As a reminder, the Eastchester-Dyre Av bound platform at Gun Hill Rd is closed.
  • At all times until September 2019, Eastchester-Dyre Av-bound trains will skip Gun Hill Rd due to station rehabilitation work. For service to this station, take the 5 to Baychester Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 5. For service from this station, take the 5 to Pelham Pkwy and transfer to an Eastchester-Dyre Av bound 5.

6 train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Sunday, July 14, downtown trains will run express from 125 St to 14 St-Union Sq due to track maintenance including tie block renewal near Grand Central-42 St. As an alternative use an uptown 4 local or 6 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 14 St-Union Sq, Grand Central-42 St, 59 St, 86 St, or 125 St.
  • From 10 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, service will be extended to the Bowling Green 4/5 station due to accessibility improvements including platform boarding area reconstruction at the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station.

7 train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, July 13, to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 34 St-Hudson Yards bound trains will run express from Mets-Willets-Point to Queensboro Plaza due to track maintenance between Mets-Willets Pt and Queensboro Plaza. As an alternative, use a Flushing-Main St bound 7 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Queensboro Plaza, 61 St-Woodside, Junction Blvd, or Mets-Willets Point.

A train:

  • From 10 p.m. Friday, July 12, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, uptown trains will stop at Spring St, 23 St and 50 St due to track maintenance near 14 St and Canal St.
  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 12, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Kingston-Throop Avs, Franklin Av, Clinton-Washington Avs, and Lafayette Av due to signal maintenance. As an alternative, use a Queens-bound A or Euclid Av-bound C train to complete your trip. Transfer at Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, Nostrand Av, or Utica Av. As a reminder, C trains do not during the late nights.
  • From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, the Rockaway Park/Beach 116 St S shuttle service will be extended to Rockaway Blvd to facilitate beach traffic to the peninsula. Customers can take any A train to connect with the shuttle at Rockaway Blvd. This seasonal service will also be available on Labor Day. B train:

  • Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, service will end early due to track maintenance near 14 St and Canal St. As an alternative, take C/D and/or Q trains instead. As a reminder, B trains do not run on weekends.

E/F trains:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 13 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor.

L train:

  1. Until summer 2020, L trains will run every 20 minutes between Brooklyn and Manhattan, in both directions on weekends and weeknights. Within Brooklyn, L trains run every 10 minutes in both directions on weekends from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. NYC Transit encourages customers to take advantage of extensive and robust options in its alternative service plan for quicker travel or to avoid crowds.A dedicated website on the L Project is available with trip planning tools, information on the project and travel guides for stations from 8 Av to Lorimer St. Customers are also encouraged to sign up for a weekly email newsletter on the Project to get progress updates and reach Transit staff with feedback or questions. M train:

  • From 10 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, and from 6 a.m. Saturday, July 13 to 1:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, special weekend M service to help accommodate customers during the L Project runs between Brooklyn and up to 96 St in Manhattan. M trains will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St, and via the Q to/from 96 St.
  • Through summer 2020, service ends at approximately 10 p.m. between Forest Hills-71 Av and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor. For Queens, take the R. For Court Sq-23 St, Lexington Av-53 St, and 5 Av/53 St, take the E. Transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq M/R or W 4 St E/M.

N train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, July 13 to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 14, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza due to track replacement near 30 Av and Broadway. N trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Queensboro Plaza. Free shuttle buses will make all N line station stops between Queensboro Plaza and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd. Some buses departing from Ditmars Blvd will run express to Queensboro Plaza. Transfer between trains and buses at Queensboro Plaza. As a reminder, the Astoria Blvd station is closed for renewal work.
  • From 10:45 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, Manhattan-bound trains are rerouted via the Q (Manhattan Bridge) from DeKalb Av to Canal St due to signal and switch maintenance near DeKalb Av. Manhattan-bound N/R trains will not stop at Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall. Use the nearby 4 stations via transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. As a reminder, late night service between Whitehall St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr is suspended this weekend.
  • At all times until December 2019, trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure. For more details about this critical structural repair project, refer to this prior press release.
  • At all times through July 2019, trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.

R train:

  • From 10:45 p.m. Friday, July 12 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 15, R trains will not run between Whitehall St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to signal and switch maintenance near DeKalb Av. Take the 4/N. R trains will run between Bay Ridge-95 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. Trains will run express between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St; take the D or N. For DeKalb Av, take the D or N via transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. To Lower Manhattan, take the 4 to nearby stations via transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. From Whitehall St, Court St, and Jay St-MetroTech, take the R.
  • From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and July 14, Manhattan-bound trains are rerouted via the Q (Manhattan Bridge) from DeKalb Av to Canal St due to signal and switch maintenance near DeKalb Av. Manhattan-bound N/R trains will not serve Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall. Use the nearby 4 stations via transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. As a reminder, late night service between Whitehall St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr is suspended this weekend.

W train:

  • Beginning 8:30 p.m., Friday, July 12, service will end early due to signal and switch maintenance near DeKalb Av. As an alternative, take the N or R. As a reminder, W trains do not run on weekends.
