NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes July 6-7

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, July 5, through early Monday morning, July 8— in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service."

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 17 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

• From 11:15 p.m. Friday, July 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, trains will run between South Ferry and 96 St due to track and switch maintenance near 137 St. For service between 96 St and Van Cortlandt Park-242 St, take free shuttle buses, M3, M100 and A/C trains instead. Buses will run along four routes. Use the A to nearby stations via transfer at 59 St 1/A, 168 St shuttle bus/A, Dyckman St A to Dyckman St 1 or 207 St shuttle bus/A. As a reminder the 168 St 1 station is closed.
• At all times until early 2020, trains skip 168 St in both directions due to elevator replacement work. For alternate service take the AC at/to this station. Transfer between 1 and A trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle. A free out-of-system transfer with a MetroCard is available between the 207 St or 215 St 1 and 207 St A. Take the M5 to/from 157 St 1. Late nights, the M5 will run between 168 St and 157 St. This work is part of a major elevator replacement project at five separate "deep" stations in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. • At all times through July 2019, the uptown platform at Franklin St will be EXIT ONLY due to the installation of flood protection equipment. For uptown service from this station, take a downtown train to Chambers St and transfer to an uptown 1/2 or 3. Or, use the nearby Canal St 1 station.

2/3 trains:

• At all times through July 2019, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum due to accessibility improvements. During this closure, use the nearby Franklin Av 2/3/4/5 or Grand Army Plaza 2/3 stations. Or, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 or Crown Hts-Utica Av/New Lots Av-bound 3 (4 local train) to complete your trip. Transfer at Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Av.

2/4 trains:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, Manhattan-bound trains will run express from Franklin Av to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to accessibility improvements including elevator installation and platform work at the Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum station. As an alternative, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 or New Lots Av-bound 3/4 local train to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or Franklin Av.

2/5 trains:

• At all times through August 2019, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Winthrop St due to station rehabilitation work. For service to Winthrop St, use the nearby Sterling St or Church Avenue stations. Or, take a 2/5 train to Sterling St and transfer to a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 or 5. For service from Winthrop St, take the B44 local or B44 SBS bus, or 2/5 to Church Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 2 or 5 train.

3 train:

• From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 5, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and July 7, Manhattan-bound trains will run express from Franklin Av to Atlantic Av-Barclays-Ctr due to accessibility improvements including elevator installation and platform work at the Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum station. As an alternative, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 or New Lots Av-bound 3/4 local train to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or Franklin Av.

4 train:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, downtown trains will run express from 125 St to 14 St-Union Sq due to track maintenance including tie block renewal near Grand Central-42 St. As an alternative, use an uptown 4 local or 6 to complete your trip. Transfer at 14 St-Union Sq, Grand Central-42 St, 59 St, 86 St, or 125 St.

5 train:

• From 10 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, trains will run every 20 minutes between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St/Bowling Green due to track maintenance including tie block renewal near Grand Central-42 St.
• Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, service will end early between E 180 St and Bowling Green due to track maintenance. Take the 2 and/or 4. As a reminder, 5 service does not run in Manhattan overnight.
• At all times until September 2019, Eastchester-Dyre Av-bound trains will skip Gun Hill Rd due to station rehabilitation work. For service to this station, take the 5 to Baychester Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 5. For service from this station, take the 5 to Pelham Pkwy and transfer to an Eastchester-Dyre Av bound 5

6 train:

• From 10 p.m. Friday, July 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, service will run to/from the Bowling Green 4/5 station due to accessibility improvements including platform boarding area reconstruction at Brooklyn Bridge station.
• From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, July 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 7, uptown trains will skip Castle Hill Av, Zerega Av, Westchester Sq, Middletown Rd, and Buhre Av due to track replacement and panel installation near Buhre Av. As an alternative, use a downtown 6 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Pelham Bay Park or Parkchester.
• From 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6, and from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7, trains will run every 16 minutes between 3 Av-138 St and Pelham Bay Park due to track replacement and panel installation near Buhre Av. The last stop for some trains headed towards Pelham Bay Park will be 3 Av-138 St. To continue your trip, transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound 6 train at 3 Av-138 St.

A train:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, downtown trains will run express from 125 St to Canal St due to electrical maintenance including conduit and cable work near 42 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local, C, or E train to complete your trip. Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St-Port Authority, 59 St-Columbus Circle, or 125 St. As a reminder, C trains do not run late night.
• From 10 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, uptown trains will stop at Spring St, 23 St and 50 St due to track maintenance and conduit installation.
• From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, the Rockaway Park/Beach 116 St S shuttle service will be extended to Rockaway Blvd to facilitate beach traffic to the peninsula. Customers can take any A train to connect with the shuttle at Rockaway Blvd. This seasonal service will also be available on Labor Day. B train:

• Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, service will end early due to track maintenance. As an alternative, take C/D and/or Q trains instead. As a reminder, trains do not run on weekends.

C train:

• From 9:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. Friday, July 5, and from 6 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and July 7, downtown trains will run express from 125 St to Canal St due to electrical maintenance including conduit and cable work near 42 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local, C, or E train to complete your trip. Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St-Port Authority, 59 St-Columbus Circle A/C, or 125 St A/C. As a reminder, C trains do not run during late night hours.

D train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will skip DeKalb Av and run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St due to signal and switch maintenance near DeKalb Av. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound D/N local or R train to complete your trip. From DeKalb Av, take the N/Q/R instead. For Union St, 9 St, Prospect Av, and 25 St, take the N or R instead. Transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

E train:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, downtown trains will skip 23 St and Spring St due to electrical maintenance including conduit and cable work near 42 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local, C, or E train to complete your trip. Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, E trains will run between World Trade Center and Briarwood then via the F line to/from 179 St, due to track panel replacement between Briarwood and Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer. Free shuttle buses will make all E line station stops between Union Tpke and Jamaica Center. Transfer between trains and buses at Union Tpke or Briarwood. For service to Manhattan and JFK Airport, take the A to/from Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, Jamaica-bound trains will run express from Queens Plaza to Forest Hills-71 Av due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound E local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Forest Hills-71, Roosevelt Av, or Queens Plaza. As a reminder, R service does not run in Queens overnight.

L train:

• Until summer 2020, L trains will run every 20 minutes between Brooklyn and Manhattan, in both directions on weekends and weeknights. Within Brooklyn, L trains run every 10 minutes in both directions on weekends from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. NYC Transit encourages customers to take advantage of extensive and robust options in its alternative service plan for quicker travel or to avoid crowds.A dedicated website on the L Project is available with trip planning tools, information on the project and travel guides for stations from 8 Av to Lorimer St. Customers are also encouraged to sign up for a weekly email newsletter on the Project to get progress updates and reach Transit staff with feedback or questions. M train:

• From 10 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, and from 6 a.m. Saturday, July 6 to 1:30 a.m. Monday, July 8, special weekend M service to help accommodate customers during the L Project runs between Brooklyn and up to 96 St in Manhattan. M trains will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St, and via the Q to/from 96 St.
• Through summer 2020, service will end early between Forest Hills-71 Av and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor. For Queens, take the R. For Court Sq-23 St, Lexington Av-53 St, and 5 Av/53 St, take the E. Transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq M/R or W 4 St E/M.

N train:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St (Brooklyn) due to station rehabilitation work at 62 St including steel and platform repairs, and installation of elevators. Between 36 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, N trains will run via the D line in both directions. For 45 St, 53 St, and 59 St, take the R via transfer at 36 St. Free shuttle buses will make all N line station stops between 59 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. For stations between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 59 St, transfer to/from buses at Coney Island-Stillwell Av N, New-Utrecht Av N, or 59 St R.
• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 6, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, Coney Island-bound trains will run local from DeKalb Av to 36 St due to signal and switch maintenance near Dekalb Av.
• At all times until December 2019, trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure. N/Q trains:

• From 11 p.m. Friday, July 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 8, Manhattan-bound trains will run via the R (Lower Manhattan) from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Canal St due to track replacement including new rail installation, and ties and plate renewal between DeKalb Av and Prince St. Manhattan-bound trains will stop at DeKalb Av, Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt Sr, and City Hall.

R train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 5, to 12:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, and from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July and July 7, Forest Hills-bound trains will run express from Queens Plaza to Forest Hills-71 Av due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound E local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Forest Hills-71, Roosevelt Av, or Queens Plaza.

W train:

• Beginning 8:30 p.m., Friday, July 5, service will end early due to track replacement including new rail installation, and ties and plate renewal between DeKalb Av and Prince St. As an alternative, take the N or R. As a reminder, W trains do not run on weekends.
