NYC's Car-Free 'Summer Streets' Expands To All 5 Boroughs

Twenty miles of New York City's streets will be open July and August for walking, running, cycling and play — but not cars.

NEW YORK CITY — Summer Streets is almost here — and its car-free promise will go citywide.

The program will double this July and August to 20 miles of streets open for walking, bicycling, running, play and other forms of frolicking, Mayor Eric Adams announced Monday.

All are welcome, except cars.

"We are now saying the Summer Streets program is going to be a five-borough initiative," Adams said.

This season's Summer Streets program will be the largest in the program's history, officials said.

Adams said it not only will build upon last year's expansion into Harlem, but make it more than a Manhattan-focused program.

Summer Streets will run Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the following dates and locations:

Summer Streets: Queens on July 29

  • Vernon Boulevard between 44 Drive and 30 Drive

Summer Streets: Staten Island on July 29

  • Richmond Terrace between York Avenue and Bard Avenue

Summer Streets: Manhattan on Aug. 5, 12 and 19

From Brooklyn Bridge to West 125 Street via:

  • Lafayette Street and Park Avenue between Brooklyn Bridge and East 109 Street
  • East 109 Street between Park Avenue and 5th Avenue
  • 5th Avenue between East 109 Street and Central Park North
  • Central Park North between 5th Avenue and Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard
  • Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard between Central Park North and West 125 Street

Summer Streets: Brooklyn on Aug. 26

  • Eastern Parkway between Grand Army Plaza and Buffalo Avenue

Summer Streets: The Bronx on Aug. 26

  • Grand Concourse between East Tremont Avenue and Mosholu Parkway
