NYC's Top 10 Public High Schools: New Rankings Released

NEW YORK, NY – New York City's public education system might be mired in controversy with many failing schools, others over-crowded or criticized for their lack of diversity.

But there's no shortage of them earning an A+, according to Niche.com's 2019 list of the 100 best public high schools in the country.

If you're curious, the No. 1 public high school in America is the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. New York City's top entrant is Stuyvesant High School in Tribeca, according to Niche.com. It's ranked the fourth best in the country.

Niche, a website for researching schools, used a variety of factors, including SAT/ACT scores, student-teacher ratio, the quality of colleges students consider and reviews from students and parents for its ranking. Niche assigns a standardized score for each factor, which is then weighted before an overall score is calculated for each school district. The overall scores are again standardized and some districts are disqualified from receiving a final letter grade if there isn't enough data.

3 - Bronx High School of Science

4 - Townsend Harris High School

5 - High School Math Science & Engineering at The City College of New York (CCNY)

6 - Brooklyn Technical High School

7 - Bard High School Early College Queens

8 - High School of American Studies at Lehman College

9 - Baccalaureate School for Global Education

10 - Queens High School for the Sciences at York College
