Police commissioner Jessica Tisch talked to Bondi at One Police Plaza on Monday.
NEW YORK CITY — NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch told U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Monday that New York City does not need the National Guard, citing recent lower crime numbers, according to reports.
Tisch talked to Bondi at One Police Plaza for about 30 minutes and explained that the NYPD had crime under control, according to the New York Post and PIX11 News.
The police commissioner mentioned that overall shootings and shooting victims have dropped to all-time lows so far this year.

Two weeks ago, President Donald Trump mentioned looking at other cities like New York City, Baltimore, Oakland and Chicago for a possible federal takeover after he deployed the National Guard in Washington D.C.
“We have other cities that are very bad. New York is a problem. And then you have, of course, Baltimore and Oakland. We don’t even mention that anymore. They’re so far gone,” Trump said.

"I will look at New York in a little while. Let’s do this. Let’s do this together,“ he added. ”And if we need to, we’ll do the same thing in Chicago. We have an incompetent governor there.”
Earlier this month, Mayor Eric Adams also made it clear that New York City doesn't need the National Guard help.
Adams' comments came during a CBS News New York interview on Aug. 12.
"We got this," Adams told the outlet, asserting that there is no need for the National Guard.
The mayor also disclosed that the Trump administration has not reached out to him about any possible deployment.
"This is the safest big city in America, and we've seen the [crime] numbers continue to decrease," the mayor said. "If the federal government wants to partner with us to go after some real laws to stop dangerous people from having guns, those with mental health issues getting access to guns, we look forward to having that coordination in that manner."
Despite Trump's comments, there are no confirmed plans to bring the National Guard to the city at this time.
