Here are the top five stories today in New York City:
- A former NYPD officer, who was accused by federal prosecutors on now-dropped charges of feeding information to the Chinese Communist Party, wants answers and his old job back. Baimadajie Angwang had first been accused of feeding information to the Chinese government about New York City's Tibetan community in September 2020. (Associated Press)
- Here's the latest on George Santos, a representative from California, Robert Garcia, has submitted a resolution to expel the embattled Queens Congressman from Congress, which would require a two-thirds vote to pass. (New York City Patch)
- Meanwhile Gov. Kathy Hochul excluded Santos, who lied about large portions of his biography, from a bipartisan meeting with New York's congressional delegation. (Spectrum New York 1)
- A Republican State Senator is suing the Senate's Democratic leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and other high-ranking Democrats in a bid to force a full vote on Gov. Kathy Hochul's nominee for chief justice of the State Supreme Court of Appeals, Hector LaSalle. (AMNY)
- Twenty-four-hour drop-in centers for runaway and homeless youth will no longer allow young people using their services to sleep during the night, according to a new directive sent out last month by the Department of Youth and Community Development. The centers have been ordered to get rid of cots and beds that they previously made available. (THE CITY)
- Hundreds gathered at the Makki Masjid Muslim Community Center in Midwood, Brooklyn yesterday to mourn the loss of Adeed Fayaz, the NYPD officer who was shot dead while off-duty during a robbery attempt last weekend. (Subscription/New York Daily News)

- Empire State Building workers have a new look, courtesy of a Turkish immigrant designer. (Spectrum New York 1)
- The Central Park Zoo has a 24-hour watch guard out for its escaped eagle owl Flaco. Experts say the owl could survive weeks without food given his large (six foot) wingspan. (Gothamist)
- Alleva Dairy, a 130-year-old cheese shop in Manhattan's Little Italy, is closing next month, after a dispute with the landlord over thousands due in late rent. (Subscription/The New York Times)
