NYPD Cops Become Cartoons For World Emoji Day

Even the Statue of Liberty got the emoji treatment.

NEW YORK, NY — Tuesday is World Emoji Day — and even the cops are celebrating. The NYPD turned police officers and a crime-fighting dog into the beloved text-message cartoons in a series of photos posted to Twitter.

The ubiquitous characters are celebrated on July 17 because that's the date shown on the calendar emoji, according to the World Emoji Day website.

One image on the @NYPDNews Twitter account creatively superimposed the Statue of Liberty emoji onto a photo of the real Lady Liberty — and put the bald eagle emoji flying above an NYPD boat near her.
