NEW YORK CITY — An NYPD officer and three other people were fatally shot by a gunman in Midtown Manhattan on Monday, according to reports.

The incident happened at 345 Park Ave. around 6:40 p.m., according to CBS News and ABC7 New York.

The shooter apparently walked into the building carrying an AR-style weapon and made his way to the 33rd floor, where he opened fire, according to reports.

The officers that were shot were working security detail when the incident occurred. The suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. He has since been identified as Shane Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, according to the New York Post.

At least six civilians were injured in the shooting. The extent of their injuries are not known at this time.

Police asked people to avoid East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

The Park Avenue building contains offices for Blackstone and the NFL, among others.

Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the incident in a tweet on X:

"New Yorkers: there is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now. Please take proper safety precautions if you are in the vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street."
