The suspect allegedly fired a shot at the officers, striking one of them in the thigh.

NEW YORK CITY — An NYPD officer and a bystander were shot and injured by an armed robbery suspect who had robbed two stores in Queens on Wednesday evening, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call of a robbery at a deli on Hillside Avenue near 164th Street in Jamaica around 5:30 p.m., police said.
The suspect — identified as Gary Worthy — had entered the deli and threatened customers and workers with a black revolver, while demanding money, police said.

Worthy allegedly fired a shot at the officers, striking one of them in the thigh. The officer fired back, striking the suspect in the face, police said.
A 26-year-old woman was also shot, though it is not clear at this time who shot her, police said.
The suspect was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"We are grateful tonight, but we are also angry. We're angry because we have witnessed in two days a criminal justice system that is failing New Yorkers and the good people of this city," Mayor Eric Adams said at a press conference Wednesday night.
"We're angry that a violent, repeated offender who has prior gun arrests, who pled guilty to manslaughter, and who was arrested for seven crimes since 2001 alone was free to commit two robberies tonight, one up on Hillside Avenue area and another down on Jamaica Avenue."
The injured officer, identified as Rich Wong, 36, was also transported to Jamaica Hospital. He was expected to be released on Wednesday morning.
