NYPD Detective Shot In Queens, 1 Person In Custody

NEW YORK CITY — An NYPD officer is recovering after being shot in a case of friendly fire in Queens on Friday.
The incident happened near the Whitestone Expressway and 22nd Road around 9 a.m.
Police were responding to a 911 call of a reported carjacking and as they attempted to apprehend the suspect, officers fired shots, striking the detective in the hand and leg, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

The detective was taken to the Jamaica Hospital for treatment.
A suspect was taken into custody after the incident. No charges have been filed yet.
