A Flatbush Avenue landlord only found out the studio had closed when they found it "cleared out" with the door unlocked, a lawsuit states.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — SoulCycle owes a landlord $393,000 after it abruptly slammed the brakes on a Park Slope studio, a new lawsuit argues.

A civil complaint filed last week in Brooklyn court accuses SoulCycle of breaking its lease in a Flatbush Avenue building, where it operated a second-floor indoor cycling studio.

The studio stopped paying rent since about January 2022, according to the complaint. But it's only when an alarm went off inside the studio on Sept. 1 that the landlord discovered SoulCycle had, in fact, closed, the lawsuit states.

"Upon inspection, Landlord found the front door of the Premises unlocked, open, and the entire space was cleared out, including the signage out front," the complaint states.

"Once inside the Premises, Landlord found a bag with the keys to the Premises."

SoulCycle representatives didn't return Patch's request for comment.

The company announced in August 2022 that it would close a quarter of its studios, including four in New York City, because of pandemic-related business shifts, Business Insider reported.

The Park Slope studio was listed as one of those locations in the report.

The lawsuit argues that the Flatbush Avenue location had roughly $65,000 in past rent owed between January and October 2022.

But it argues that the lease with SoulCycle is even more costly after it has been terminated.

"To date, in breach of the Lease, Tenant owes Landlord for Rent, Additional Rent, and other charges the sum of no less than $393,057.14 (the 'Arrears'), plus late fees and interest," the complaint states.
