Pedestrian Crushed To Death In Fatal NYC Crash, Driver Charged: NYPD

NEW YORK CITY — A pedestrian was killed after a speeding driver crashed into him on a Manhattan street Monday.

The driver —Angel Melendez, 51— has been charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment, police announced.

Melendez is accused of speeding in a Mercedes SUV running a red light and as he crossed East 105 Street he proceeded to crash into a concrete island and a parked motorcycle, Patch previously reported.

Melendez also hit a parked Chevy Tahoe that struck Nadjari Reid, 51, police said.

Reid was found lying in the roadway, unresponsive, with severe trauma to the leg, police said.

He was transported to Cornell Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
