Queens Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani To Enter 2025 Mayoral Race
The assembly member is expected to officially announce his mayoral bid on Wednesday
NEW YORK CITY —Zohran Mamdani, a Queens assembly member, will join a crowded field looking to unseat Mayor Eric Adams next November.
Mamdani, 33, filed a committee to run in the 2025 Democratic primary for mayor on Monday, according to city Campaign Finance Board records.
The assembly member is expected to officially announce his mayoral bid on Wednesday, according to Gothamist.

The New York Post first reported Mamdani's plans to enter the race last weekend.
In 2020, Mamdani beat incumbent Aravella Simotas for her seat, which encompass most of Astoria, Ditmars-Steinway, Astoria Heights and Long Island City.

Mamdani will be running against city comptroller Brad Lander, former comptroller Scott Stringer, state Sen. Zellnor Myrie and state Assemblymember Jessica Ramos.
