NEW YORK – A heroin mill packed with $5 million worth of drugs stamped with names including "El Chapo," "Superman" and "Hello Kitty" has been busted in New York City, investigators announced Friday.

Drug enforcement agents found hundreds of thousands of packages of heroin on tables, in bags and laid across the floor as they raided a home in The Bronx, the office of the city's Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan said.

About three kilograms of the drug worth $5 million were seized. It had been destined for sale on the streets of New York City and throughout the Northeast, prosecutors said.

"Evident in the various stamps used to brand their heroin, this organization catered to numerous dealers in New York City and the Northeast," said the Drug Enforcement Agency's special agent in charge Ray Donovan.

"'Hello Kitty,' 'Rolex' and 'NBA' are just three popular brands used by the organization to stamp their product and lure users."

The raid at the home on Wallace Avenue, near Boston Road, came after drug enforcement agents watching the address saw a man take a large shopping bag out of the building and put it into a car with Massachusetts plates on July 16.

The officers stopped the car and found the bag full of packages of what appeared to be heroin, prosecutors said.

A second car was stopped near the building a day later and a suitcase full of drugs was found, according to Brennan's office. Later that day, agents searched the building and found a "fully functioning heroin mill," prosecutors said.

Amaury Lora-Grullon and Joseph Medina-Hidalgo, from The Bronx, and Luis Carmona-Ilarraza, from Springfield, Massachusetts, have been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
