Robber Charged With Attempted Murder After Shooting 2 NYPD Sergeants

NEW YORK CITY — A 22-year-old man has been charged after he shot two NYPD sergeants while trying to escape an arrest following an armed robbery in Lower Manhattan Thursday, police announced.

Joshua Dorsett, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery, police said.

Dorsett had just robbed several women at gunpoint at 91 Canal St. in Chinatown around 4:15 p.m. Thursday when he chased down by police at 167 Eldridge St.

When the NYPD sergeants caught up to Dorsett and attempted to arrest him, a struggle occurred, and the 22-year-old pulled out a gun from his waistband and fired one shot, police said.

One sergeant was shot in the groin, and the other was grazed in the leg, police said.

The sergeant who was grazed in the leg, Christopher Leap, 34, was released from the hospital Thursday night, police officials said.

The other sergeant has not been released from the hosptital yet.
