Sen. Chuck Schumer Opposes Slew Of President Trump's Nominees

In a Facebook post, the Senate minority leader announced he would be opposing many of those nominated for Cabinet positions.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, the Democrat from New York and Senate minority leader, announced Monday on Facebook that he would oppose at least eight of President Trump's nominees for Cabinet positions.

"After the first week of the Trump presidency it’s clear our country is at a cross roads," Schumer wrote. "In his first week in office the president has stomped over our proud American tradition of welcoming immigrants and refugees, trafficked in alternative facts, and is attempting to fill his cabinet with billionaires and bankers."

In particular, Schumer said he would not vote for the following nominees:

Betsy Devos — Secretary of Education

Rex Tillerson — Secretary of State

Sen. Jeff Sessions — Attorney General

Rep. Mick Mulvaney — Budget Director

Rep. Tom Price — Secretary of Health and Human Services

Steve Mnuchin — Treasury Secretary

Scott Pruitt — Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency

Andy Puzder — Secretary of Labor

"The people that the president has nominated to serve in his cabinet will have incredible power over millions of Americans and in shaping what kind of country we are going to be," Schumer wrote.

The people listed above, he continued, "have repeatedly shown they will not put the American People or the Laws of our nation first, and I will vote against their confirmations."

At a weekend protest in Battery Park in Manhattan, Schumer spoke to the crowd of demonstrators. They chanted, "Vote down nominees!" While the senator didn't directly acknowledge the chant, he shook his fist in a show of support.
