NEW YORK CITY — The son of an 84-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection to her death after she was found dead inside an Upper West Side apartment last year.
Edward Ascencio, 51, has been charged with manslaughter and assault, police said.

The city's medical examiner ruled the incident a homicide in January 2024, police said.
The medical examiner had found bruises on the 84-year-old mother's body, and it appeared she had been choked.
