Sophie Turner Sues Joe Jonas In NYC For Children's Return To England

The stars' high-profile split has turned acrimonious, as Turner sued Jonas under an international child abduction law Thursday.

NEW YORK CITY — Sophie Turner sued Joe Jonas in a New York City federal court for the return of their two children to England, according to a newly filed lawsuit.

Turner, the "Game of Thrones" actress, accused Jonas of refusing to allow their children to leave the U.S. and holding onto their passports, the petition filed Thursday contends.

By doing so, Jonas has violated Turner's custody rights under the Hague Convention, an international law that covers cases of child abduction, the lawsuit states.

"The Father has prevented the children’s return to England, which is a breach of the Mother’s rights of custody under English law, England being the children’s habitual residence," the document states.

The lawsuit provides a glimpse into the last days of Jonas' and Turner's high-profile marriage.

The pair, who married in 2019 after dating for several years, had bounced around the United Kingdom, New York City and Miami, among other places, in the months leading to their divorce, the filing states.

Turner contends in the lawsuit that they started to look for a "forever home" in December 2022 for which they'd permanently settle their family in England. After the family relocated to England in April, they found such a property in Little Stoke House, Little Stoke, Wallingford, Oxford and exchanged contracts to buy it in July, the petition states.

And the pair's children had also made a life in England, where they participate in a theater company, the filing states.

"The children are both fully involved and integrated in all aspects of daily and cultural life in England," the lawsuit states.

The children had returned to the U.S. with Jonas as he went on tour with the Jonas Brothers, with the plan that they'd all return to England, the filing states.

But their marriage broke down "very suddenly," the lawsuit states.

The filing then gives a timeline: "The parties had an argument on August 15, 2023. On or about September 1, 2023, the Father filed a divorce case against the Mother in Florida. On or about September 5, 2023, the Mother found out through the media that the Father had filed for divorce."

The lawsuit appears to have filed after a Sunday meeting in which Jonas refused to return the children's passports to Turner as she planned to take them to England.

On Tuesday, Jonas' attorney in Florida confirmed he wouldn't return the passports and would not consent for the children to return to England, the lawsuit states.

Turner filed the lawsuit Thursday and remains with the two children in a Midtown hotel, the filing states.
