State Grants Will Aid In 5 NYC Swimming Pools Renovations

NEW YORK CITY — Governor Kathy Hochul announced Thursday that a number of swimming pools in New York City will be renovated using state grants.
The funds, part of the New York Statewide Investment in More Swimming (NY SWIMS) program, will help renovate five swimming pools in the city.
Manhattan’s Tompkins Square Park will be awarded $6 million to renovate its pool that could double the capacity.

The Van Cortlandt Park Pool Complex in the Bronx, the Hamilton Fish Recreation Center pool in the Lower East Side, the Averne East Aquatic Center in Queens and the Hansborough Recreation Center pool in Harlem we are all awarded $10 million.
“Every region of New York State will soon have brand new public pools to help provide New York families with safe ways to learn how to swim,” Hochul said. “There is a clear need and demand for reliable and accessible swimming facilities, and these programs will enhance the health and well-being of communities and families all across the State.”

In total, nearly $150 million in capital grants were awarded to fund 37 projects in underserved communities across the state.
